New Years Eve In Times Square Could Be Among Coldest Ever

Make sure you bundle up, because the temperature when the ball drops is going to be among the lowest ever.

If you're planning on making the trek into Times Square for the New Years Eve celebration, make sure you dress warmly. Forecasters are saying that this year could be one of the coldest ever.

Many meteorologists are saying the temperature could dip down into the low teens at Times Square. The National Weather Service predicts a low of 11 degrees — and that's without the windchill.

Of course, cold temperatures on New Years Eve are nothing new. But the average temperature for the last 100 years has been about 34 degrees — practically tropical compared to what's expected this year.

However, it's also not the coldest its ever been. New York has had some very cold New Years Eves in the past.

But there have been some pretty warm years, too. Unfortunately, we're not going to get anywhere near these temperatures.

If there's a small consolation with this year's temperatures, it's that there's no snow expected. Revelers in Times Square in 1948 had four inches of snow dropped on them — the record amount for the date.
