SEAFORD, NY — Not only did the graduates from Seaford High School earn degrees, but the school district gave an honorary diploma to Scott Bersin. After 12 years as an administrator, including the last nine years as principal, Bersin is taking on a new position as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

"There is an expression in the world of athletics used sometimes to describe a coach as a players’ coach," John Striffolino, Seaford’s assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel, said in a statement. "This type of coach embraces each of his or her players and enables them to have a say in how the team operates. Well, the way I see it, Mr. Bersin has always been a students' principal."

Bersin came to the district in 2009 and served one year as Seaford Middle School assistant principal before moving to the same position at the high school.
