Seaford Elementary-Schooler Contracts Coronavirus; School Opens
Officials say a Seaford elementary-schooler tested positive for COVID-19. It's the second case to impact the district in the 2020-21 year.

SEAFORD, NY — The Seaford Union Free School District reported a second coronavirus case, this time at an elementary school.
In a letter to the community, superintendent Adele Pecora said the district learned late Thursday afternoon that a student at Seaford Harbor Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. State records showed the student was learning on-site. The student must quarantine under Department of Health guidelines and cannot return to school until the district receives a letter clearing them to return to school.
"Out of an abundance of caution and following guidance issued by the New York State Education Department at the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH), we have closed off all areas of the building that the individual used and are thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting those spaces," Pecora said.

The county health department completed contact tracing. Due to the circumstances of the latest case and the implementation of masks, barriers and social distancing in the classrooms, the school was not told to quarantine. All schools in the district opened Friday.
This is the second coronavirus case to affect the district in the young 2020-21 school year.

Earlier this month, a Seaford Middle School student contracted the virus. That student was told to quarantine under state health guidelines. In that case, the district also allowed all schools to remain open.
