Stop & Shop Donates Essentials to Mount Sinai Front-Line Workers
In Recognition of National Nurses Week, Stop & Shop Donates Groceries to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital Nurses and Front-Line Workers

In recognition of National Nurses Week, Stop & Shop donated more than 30 pallets of essential groceries to 500 nurses and other frontline workers at Long Island’s Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, where these hospital employees are working hard to care for the community during COVID-19.
One of Long Island’s hardest hit hospitals since the onset of the pandemic in late February, Mount Sinai South Nassau has treated more than 1,240 patients with COVID-19, while totaling more than 760 patient recovery discharges.
“Stop & Shop values the tremendous work that Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital is doing to keep the community safe and healthy during the pandemic,” said Stefanie Shuman, External Communications and Community Relations Manager for Stop & Shop. “As nurses and other hospital workers are busy taking care of others, Stop & Shop is proud to take care them. We hope this donation will save these essential workers a trip to the store for basic necessities and make their lives a bit easier to manage.”

The Stop & Shop donation included everyday essentials such as paper towels, toilet paper, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce and cereal. The groceries were handed out to 500 healthcare workers at the hospital on Thursday and was met with incredible gratitude.
“Stop & Shop is the very definition of a good corporate citizen. In our hour of greatest need, they came forward - without being asked - to see how they could help our frontline staff who have been working so hard in what has been a life and death struggle each day for the last two months,” said Richard J. Murphy, president and CEO at Mount Sinai South Nassau. “We are so very grateful to Stop & Shop for their ongoing, extremely generous donation of thousands of nourishing meals and for this special delivery of essential groceries. On behalf of our hardworking front-line staff, and all of the hospital’s employees, we thank you for going above and beyond, for providing a deep well of encouragement and for assuring us that we are not alone in this battle. You nourished not only our bodies, but our souls as well."
