Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today joined with Councilman Lou Imbroto, as well as Town highway and building officials and local neighbors to commence the demolition of a long-dilapidated zombie home in the Seaford community. “Town personnel began visiting this property a few years ago, after receiving numerous complaints from neighbors. In fact, our inspectors have visited this property more than 58 different times,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Our residents are our eyes and ears in their neighborhoods and they don’t deserve to have such an eyesore in their communities.”

Following years of complaints from the neighborhood, the Town took vigilant action when Supervisor Saladino and Councilman Imbroto initiated the Quality of Life Taskforce, which combats such dilapidated properties throughout the Town. This property had been left unmaintained after numerous code violations issued upon the property owner went unanswered. The building was found to be in very poor condition, with extensive roof damage, water penetration, unsanitary conditions, rotting interior walls and overall general disrepair. Additionally, the house had suffered significant fire damage, which further comprised its integrity.

“We have been aggressively combatting zombie homes through code enforcement programs implemented by our Quality of Life Taskforce, which are designed to rid neighborhoods of eyesores such as this,” Councilman Imbroto said. “Through the taskforce, we identify neglected properties and move forward with the legal process necessary to address these blights appropriately. Thanks to these efforts, this Seaford property marks the 15th home we’ve demolished since the task force was formed!”
