Wantagh Girl Scouts Create New Food Pantry in Roosevelt

Troop 3079 spearheads a Silver Awards project to help nearby community fight hunger.

Some dedicated Wantagh Girl Scouts have played in a role in helping the nearby community of Roosevelt fight hunger.

Wantagh Girl Scout Troop 3079 spearheaded a Silver Awards Project that involved renovating a freestanding garage on Pleasant Avenue in Roosevelt that was in much disrepair and turning into a walk-in food pantry called Harvest for the World.  The soup kitchen, which recently had a grand opening ribbon cutting, distributes food several times a week.

Troop 3079 is led by Scout Leaders Laura Rosa and Diane Sandler-Derby. All the girls who participated in the project were presented a certificate of recognition by Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, D-Hempstead.
