Wantagh High School Inducts Dozens Of Members Into Honor Group

The 67 students join the respected National Honor Society.

WANTAGH, NY — Wantagh High School inducted 67 members into the prestigious National Honor Society during a candle-lighting ceremony in the auditorium, the district announced in a news release.

National Honor Society trustees Christian Carson-Rodriguez, Lauren Daniels, Allison McGinn and Anjelica Meagher then lit the ceremonial candles, which represented the society’s tenets of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Co-vice presidents Grace Ackermann and Robert Spiteri then led the inductees in the society’s pledge.

Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone reflected on why he never qualified for the National Honor Society as a high school student. He told inductees that they possess maturity, passion and drive to succeed, but cautioned that being installed in the group comes with a high degree of responsibility.

Perhaps, Superintendent of Schools John C. McNamara summed up the night best, when he said the inductees demonstrated strength in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship even during a pandemic, and asked them, "Why do you believe you have become such successful students? Consider all those things and consider your legacy."
