Wantagh High School Students Celebrate Homecoming Like Warriors

Wantagh High School's Warriors lived up to their reps with a 37-6 win against West Hempstead's Rams last Saturday.

WANTAGH, NY — Wantagh High School’s football team lived up to their reps as warriors by dominating West Hempstead’s Rams in a 37-6 victory during last Saturday’s homecoming game, and not without accompanying fanfare, school district officials said.

Homecoming week started off with the school’s classrooms and hallways being decorated, and on Friday, there was a virtual pep rally, during which the district’s sports teams, musicians, club members and community supporters were celebrated, according to school officials.

At the halftime show, the varsity cheerleaders “motivated the already upbeat fans and the marching band and dance team gave a flawless performance of tune favorites like Van Halen’s “Jump” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” school district officials said.

Seniors Robert Spiteri and Helen Ibrahim were then crowned king and queen with Makenna Boutin and Christopher Murale as first runners-up and Noah Gabe and Kassidy Samaroo as second runners-up, according to school district officials.

COVID-19 guidelines restricted the number of people who could fill the stands to two guests per athlete, musician, dance team member and cheerleader and in order to accommodate the number of seniors who requested to attend their final homecoming, many parents gave up their tickets to make this special day happen, Superintendent of Schools John McNamara said.
