Wantagh Parkway Scheduled for Closures

The northbound Wantagh State Parkway (WSP) is scheduled for closure between Ocean Parkway and Merrick Road for much of the next three days.

State Department of Transportation (DOT) officials announced late Tuesday that the northbound WSP will be closed from Wednesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Northbound WSP traffic will be detoured to the Meadowbrook State Parkway. The WSP shared used path will also be closed.  
State DOT officials said the closures are needed to perform bridge painting work on the WSP Bridge over Sloop Channel. From the State DOT:

"As with most road work, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these travel lane closures. Motorists are being warned in advance of these closures via portable electronic message signs. However, drivers should use an alternate route or they will experience delays."
