Wantagh School Budget Struck Down

Voters failed to approve the $83.5 million budget Tuesday.

WANTAGH, NY — Voters rejected an $83.5 million budget for the Wantagh Union Free School District. It failed to reach the 60 percent threshold since they pierced the gap, the district said. There were 1,202 votes in favor of the budget and 1,165 against it.

The 2021-2022 budget would have been increase of $2.3 million from the previous year.

Homeowners also accepted a tax levy increase of 2.8 percent.

The budget also brings a hike in health insurance premiums by 3.4 percent, on average.

The district already sliced expenditures by more than $1 million with efforts that included the reduction of two full-time administrative positions.

Incumbent Anthony Greco ran unopposed for the school board trustee election. Greco received 1,727 votes.
