Wantagh Schools Plan Next Steps After Budget Fails To Pass

WANTAGH, NY — Wantagh homeowners were on the shortlist across Long Island, as they rejected their school budget Tuesday night.

Although technically the budget vote received more votes in favor of the measure, it failed to reach the 60 percent supermajority causing the $83.5 million school budget to fall.

"The Board of Education will continue a dialogue with the community and determine the next steps," the Wantagh Union Free School District posted on its website. "This will include either placing an amended budget up for a revote next month or moving to a contingency budget."

The rejected 2021-2022 budget would have been a 2.8 percent increase from the previous year. The tax levy was scheduled to rise by 3.8 percent.
