Wantagh St. Patrick's Day Parade Gets New Date, Grand Marshal

In a flurry of announcements Friday, the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce announced a new date for the parade and the grand marshal.

WANTAGH, NY — Summer might be in full swing, but that didn't stop the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce from unleashing a flurry of event notices Friday regarding planned events in November, December and March.

Perhaps most importantly, the date of the 2nd annual St. Patrick's Day Parade was rescheduled to Sunday, March, 22, 2020, due to what the organization called unforeseen circumstances and the "ridiculousness" of the Leap Year holiday.

Shortly after alerting neighbors of the new date, the chamber announced that Patrick Ryder, commissioner of Nassau County police, would serve as the grand marshal for the same parade.

"We will be celebrating his accomplishments and presenting him with his Grand Marshal Sash and Irish walking stick at our 2nd Annual Grand Marshal dinner," the chamber wrote in a Facebook post.

The dinner will be held at Mulcahy's Pub & Concert Hall on March 12, 2020.

The chamber also announced it has a new partnership for its second annual Winter Wonderland event Nov. 30. Residents will now have a more "festive transportation" option: taking a giant North Fork Trolley from Wantagh High School to the Wantagh Preservation Society.

And lastly, the chamber announced that registration is open for the annual Snowball Run. The first 300 registrants will receive a long sleeve race shirt. A post race party is planned at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall.
