Woman Cycles from Buffalo to Seaford 9/11 Monument

The 453-mile charity ride ends Saturday but will continue to raise money for the Seaford 9/11 Memorial Fund through August.

A woman who is cycling across New York State to raise money for the Seaford 9/11 Memorial Fund will complete her journey Saturday.

Michele Walsh Meyers, 48, of Rochester, began her 453-mile ride in Buffalo July 25 and will end her trip at the Seaford 9/11 Memorial. Meyers is a 1985 graduate of Seaford High School.

“This charity ride is to reflect on the events of 9/11, remember those killed and especially honor first responders killed that day; 23 NYPD, 343 FDNY and 37 PAPD, as well as military personnel who lost their lives in the war on terrorism since Sept 11, 2001,” Meyers wrote in a youcaring.com page. Special respects are paid to Seaford’s 9/11 heroes, including Robert Sliwak, John Perry, Thomas Haskell, Timothy Haskell, and Michael Wittenstein.

Meyers won’t be alone when she finishes her journey. The NYC Fire Riders aim to join her on their motorcycles.

Meyers will get to the memorial at about 2 p.m. Saturday. All are invited to welcome her home. Beverages will be provided.
