6-Figure Salary Needed For 'Affordable' Washington Heights Units

These "affordable" apartments at 516 West 162nd St. are only available to people earning roughly 130 percent of the area median income.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY -- A batch of "affordable" Washington Heights apartments hit the New York City housing lottery on Thursday, but most require incomes upwards of $100,000 to apply.

Six apartments at 516 West 162nd Street will be up for grabs on NYC Housing Connect through July 26, but they're only available to those earning 130 percent of the area median income, city records show. That equals out to at least $59,000 - and up to $145,000 - per year.

There are five one-bedroom apartments available for $1,705 a month to a person earning $58,458 to $95,030 per year, pairs earning up to $108,550 per year or groups of three earning up to $122,070 per year.

A two-bedroom - which will cost you $2,055 per month - is also available to a group of two to five people making between $70,458 and $146,510 annually.

The new building's amenities include a laundry room, garden, private storage and visual intercom, according to its listing. It is within walking distance of A, C and 1 trains and M2, M3, M100 and M101 bus stops.

A small portion of the building's affordable apartments are set aside for applicants with mobility and vision or hearing disabilities, city records show.
