Demo Set For Inwood Garage, Maybe Clearing Way For $190M Building
The Inwood property was bought in 2018 by a Brooklyn real-estate firm with plans of creating a $190 million mixed-used building.

INWOOD, NY — Demolition permits were filed on Saturday for a two-story parking garage at 4650 Broadway in Inwood. The total removal of the 20-foot-structure is one aspect of the story, but readers might be even more interested in what could replace the garage.
In 2018, the Brooklyn-based real estate development firm Hello Living purchased the 4650 Broadway property for $55 million.
At the time, YIMBY reported that the firm was planning to build a $190 million mixed-use development that would consist of 272 residential units with 30 percent of the units as affordable housing.

Additionally, there would be 140,000 square feet of community facility space and 40,000 square feet of commercial space, according to YIMBY.
The housing units would range from one to four bedrooms.

There haven't been any new building permits filed for the address, so it is unclear if the proposed plans in 2018 have changed, but Hello Living is still the owner of the property.
The demolition permit for the Inwood garage comes as a development above the new Inwood Library is moving ahead three years after a legal battle commenced over the controversial Inwood rezoning project.
The 14-story development at 4790 Broadway, named The Eliza after Alexander Hamilton's wife, will be the first new major affordable housing project since the legal battle over the rezoning began.
