Demolition Permit Filed To Make Room For Inwood Charter School

A demolition permit was just filed with the city to remove a one-story building in Inwood to make room for an incoming charter school.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Demolition permits have been filed for a one-story building in Inwood to make room for an incoming charter school at the location.

At the end of March, Patch learned that a new charter school was coming to Inwood at 400 West 219th Street. The project is under the management of Peter Fine of Bolivar Development, who is an active real estate developer in Upper Manhattan.

The plan calls for a 104-foot tall building that would have 118,231 square feet of community facility space. There is a one-story family auto repair shop property that has been at the site for the past 40 years.

The new building permit for the eight-story educational building at 400 West 219th Street was filed on Feb. 10.

A spokeswoman from the law firm representing the sellers of the existing one-story building confirmed to Patch on March 29 that the new building would be a charter school.

On May 6, the demolition plan for that 0ne-story building was filed with the city by Fine.

The demolition permit reads, "Full demolition of one-story structure, using handheld and mechanical to assist. The slab will be cracked and foundations to remain."

The permit does not specify when the demolition process for the one-story building at 400 West 219th Street will begin.

The name of the incoming charter school and when it will open are also unknown.
