Developer Plans 7-Story Inwood Apartment Building

The new development is located just south of Dyckman Street in an area not affected by a recent neighborhood rezoning.

INWOOD, NY — Developers have filed plans with the city Department of Buildings to construct a new apartment building in an area of Inwood that was not affected by a recent rezoning of the neighborhood.

Read Property Group will build a seven-story apartment complex on 140 Hillside Avenue, located between Sickles Street and Nagle Avenue, that will contain 26 apartment units, according to development plans. The development will not be affected by a controversial city plan to rezone a large portion of Inwood north of Dyckman street, so developers are not required to include any affordable housing for an as-of-right development.

The development site is currently occupied by a vacant lot. At a planned 74-feet-tall the new development should not be much larger than older buildings in the area.

Planned residential amenities include recreational space on the building's rooftop and bicycle storage for tenants, according to building plans.

Many opponents of the city's Inwood rezoning plan warned that the rezoning would cause an increase in development in areas of the neighborhood not affected by zoning changes. Residents living south of Dyckman Street advocated for the city to extend its zoning area to include contextual zoning protections to the area.
