New 'Affordable' Apartment Lottery Launched In Washington Heights

A studio for $1,725 a month? A one-bedroom for $2,100 a month? Check out this "affordable" housing lottery in Washington Heights.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Five apartments in Washington Heights recently hit the "affordable" housing lottery, but individuals will need to make at least $59,143 to apply for a studio and $72,000 for a one-bedroom.

The "affordable" units are at 465 West 163rd Street, a six-story development in Washington Heights.

The prices on the two studios and three one-bedrooms at the address don't exactly seem affordable.

The two studios will rent at $1,725 a month, ranging in eligible income from $59,143 to $118,300, and three one-bedrooms will rent at $2,100 a month, ranging in eligible income from $72,000 to $133,120.

The units are priced at 130 percent of the area income, according to New York Yimby.

Designed by A&T Engineering, the 16-unit building will have residential amenities such as a virtual doorman, bike storage, in-unit washer and dryers, dishwashers, and air conditioning.

Patch isn't sure what a virtual doorman looks like.

Prospective renters must meet the requirements listed above and have the applications submitted by Feb. 10, according to New York Yimby.
