Nonprofit Files Building Plans For 12-Story Inwood Apartment Complex

The new apartment complex will be built on a site currently occupied by a parking lot.

INWOOD, NY — A Bronx-based nonprofit organization has filed plans to construct a 12-story apartment complex in Inwood. The new development would be located on the site of 1769 Fort George Hill, located south of the intersection of Dyckman Street and Nagle Avenue.

The developer behind the new apartment complex is the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (also known as SoBRO), according to plans filed with the city Department of Buildings. The new development will rise 143-feet-tall at its highest point, according to plans.

The building will contain 123 apartment units and a total of 119,265 square feet zoned for residential space, meaning the average apartment will be about 969 square feet large, according to building plans. The development will also house a 16,096-square-foot church building, according to the plans.

This particular development has been in the works for years and has faced community opposition, New York YIMBY reported. In 2014 the city Board of Standards and Appeals heard cases for and agains granting zoning variances to the allow a development of this size on the Fort George Hill lot, according to the report. At the time, those opposed to the project voiced concerns over gentrification and the building's affordability to local residents, YIMBY reported.
