Renderings Reveal New Washington Heights Development: Report

The development, built on the site of a former church, could bring about 100 apartments to Washington Heights.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Developers behind a planned multi-use building in Washington Heights released renderings of the new structure, and it's a sharp contrast with the site's past.

Renderings of the planned nine-story building were unveiled Monday by real estate publication New York YIMBY. The new mixed-use building could bring as many as 100 apartment units to Washington Heights and will occupy the site formerly home to the Wadsworth Avenue Baptist Church on the corner of West 184th Street.

What was once the site of a modest church will become one of the most modern-looking residential buildings in the area, according to renderings acquired by YIMBY. The new building's facade will be entirely made of glass framed by dark panels, according to the renderings.

The new mixed-use building will rise 95-feet-tall and contain 98 apartment units, according to plans filed in February with the city Department of Buildings. The new development will contain 73,999 square feet of space zoned for residential use and 14,263 square feet of space zoned for a commercial facility, according to building plans.

The apartment units in the new building will be a mix of market rate units and affordable independent residences for seniors (AIRS), according to building plans.

Tenant amenities in the new building include 21 cellar-level parking spaces, a laundry facility and a recreation space, according to building plans. The community facility will be a house of worship with accessory classrooms and offices.
