Uptown Street Named One Of Manhattan's Most 'Affordable': Study
Median sales prices on one Washington Heights street are cheap in comparison to the rest of Manhattan, but "affordable" may be a stretch.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Uptown Manhattan is often cited as the borough's last bastion of "affordability," and a new study named one Washington Heights streets one of the least expensive in the city.
With 22 residential sales and a median sales price of $373,973, West 167th Street came in at No. 8 on PropertyClub's recent ranking of New York City's 50 most affordable streets. When compared to Manhattan, West 167th Street is the third most affordable street behind The Upper West Side's West 107th Street (median sales price of $204,765) and Harlem's Manhattan Avenue ($261,721).
Although the ranking heaped praise on West 167th Street, it's worth noting that most New Yorkers probably don't have $373,973 to shell out on a home. Renters make up nearly two thirds — 65.1 percent — of the city's population and the median income in New York City is about $55,000, according to a 2018 study. Still, when compared to the list of the most expensive streets that PropertyClub put together this month, the sales figures for the Washington Heights block pale in comparison.
