Virtual Tour Leads You Through The Art Deco Buildings Of Inwood

The Art Deco Society of New York is examining the glamourous architecture style of select buildings throughout Inwood.

INWOOD, NY — There is no one theme to New York City architecture, but a collection of some of the Big Apple's most famous buildings do share a common style.

Art Deco.

While there isn't one exact definition of the style, it's commonly described as bold geometric shapes with bright colors that became popular in New York City in the 1920s and 30s.

The style was synonymous with luxury and glamour.

Buildings like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are considered to have an Art Deco style.

However, you don't have to travel to Downtown Manhattan to appreciate the style. Inwood has multiple Art Deco gems throughout its uptown streets.

From Nov. 12 through Jan. 31, the Art Deco Society of New York will feature a video event you can register for at any time that takes you through a virtual tour of the different Art Deco buildings throughout Inwood.

Architectural historian, Matt Postal, will lead the web-based tour through the Cloisters in Ft. Tryon Park to distinctive lobby designs on 91 Payson Avenue to the Elsie Driggs - Lee Gatch Algonquin mural at 165 Seaman Avenue.
