Washington Heights Pumpkin House Fetches $2M In Sale: Report

The home, built into a cliff overlooking the Hudson River, was once the most expensive listing in Washington Heights.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — One of Washington Heights' most notable homes will change hands for $2 million, according to reports.

A deal for a home affectionately known as the Pumpkin House for its resemblance to a Jack-o-Lantern finally closed Thursday months after it was first reported that the home was in contract to sell, the New York Post first reported. The $2 million sum represents a deal for the new buyer, who is currently unknown, considering the home was one Washington Heights' most expensive listing with an asking price exceeding $4 million.

Details of the sale are not yet posted on the city's public real estate records website.

The Pumpkin House was previously purchased by an individual named William Wesley Spink in 2000, according to real estate records.

The three-story home resembles a jack-o-lantern when viewed from the New Jersey side of the Hudson. Spink first listed the property for $4.25 million in 2017, but the asking price was brought down to $2.9 million in May of 2018.
