Washington Heights' Pumpkin House Has Buyer

The unique home built into a cliff overlooking the Hudson River was once Washington Heights' most expensive listing.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — One of Washington Heights' most unique homes has a new buyer, according to real estate listings and reports.

The "Pumpkin House" — located on Chittenden Avenue and West 186th Street overlooking the Hudson River — is currently in contract, neighborhood blog Harlem + Bespoke first reported. When a home is in contract it means the buyer and seller have come to an agreement, but the sale is not final.

The three-story home resembles a jack-o-lantern when viewed from the New Jersey side of the Hudson, which is why it's referred to as the Pumpkin House. When the property first hit the market for $4.25 million in 2017 it was the most expensive listing in the neighborhood, but the asking price was brought down to $2.9 million in May.
