Village Org Joins The Ranks For Upcoming SoHo Rezoning Rally
Village Preservation will take part in a rally on Monday to push back against the "heinous developer-giveaway plan."

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A major Village community organization is joining with simmilar neighborhood groups across Lower Manhattan on Monday for a rally and press conference relating to the SoHo rezoning plan.
Village Preservation has served the Greenwich Village neighborhood for over 40 years in its ongoing effort to preserve the architectural and cultural heritage of the community.
On Monday, the neighborhood organization will join the Chinatown Working Group, TenantsPac, and other SoHo, NoHo, East Village, and Lower East Side community groups for a rally and press conference at noon in front of 183 Centre Street to push back against the city's upzoning plan.

The rezoning project would cover an area bounded by Canal Street to the south, Houston Street and Astor Place to the north, Lafayette Street and the Bowery to the east, and Sixth Avenue and West Broadway to the west.
The Department of City planning also has a section on its website explaining why the specific Lower Manhattan neighborhood was chosen to rezone.

However, many local residents and organizations strongly oppose the rezoning plan, stating that it would actually let more real estate developers into the neighborhood and decrease the availability of affordable units in SoHo.
Village Preservation calls the rezoning a "heinous developer-giveaway plan."
