West Village Among 10 Most Expensive Neighborhoods In NYC

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The New York City real estate market bounced back with a vengeance during the second quarter of 2021, and the West Village recorded some of the most expensive home sale prices throughout the five boroughs.

A new report from Property Shark broke down the 50 most expensive NYC neighborhoods based on the median home sale prices during the second quarter of this year. The West Village found itself within the 10 priciest neighborhoods in the entire city.

The second quarter is from April 1 to June 30.

"Hit hard by the pandemic, New York City’s real estate market is proving its resilience once again. As the vaccine rollout increasingly allows life to approach normal, buyer appetite has returned with a vengeance," wrote the author of the Property Shark report. "Specifically, 8,343 residential sales closed in Q2 2021 across the city, marking an 88% year-over-year (Y-o-Y) increase compared to the lockdown-depressed figures of Q2 2020."

The home sale numbers seen in the last quarter were also a 7 percent increase from the same quarter in pre-pandemic 2019, according to Property Shark.

The median home sale price for the West Village during the second quarter of 2021 was $1,776,000, the seventh-highest of any New York City neighborhood.

  • YoY Change: 42 percent
  • Number of Sales in Q2 2021: 82
  • YoY Change: 55 percent

Nine of the 10 most expensive neighborhoods in the city during the second quarter of 2021 were in Manhattan. Hudson Yards was the most expensive with a median home sales price of $5,714,000, followed by Tribeca, SoHo, Little Italy, and Flatiron District.
