3 Hurt In Head-On Crash On LI; Man Charged With DWI: Police

Heavy rescue was needed to help extricate the injured after the two-car crash; two were airlifted, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a head-on crash in Hampton Bays Monday that caused serious injuries, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the two-vehicle crash took place at 3:49 p.m. on Lynn Avenue at Woodbridge Road. Heavy rescue was needed, police said.

Julio D. Zajap-Sinai, 24, and his passenger Juana Flores-Urbano, 37, both of
Hampton Bays, who were in a Honda Civic, were transported by Suffolk County aviation to Stony Brook Hospital. Leslie Carr, 45, of Southampton, who was in a Honda CRV, was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Zajap-Sinai was charged with DWI after it was determined that he crossed into the path of the Honda CRV, causing the head-on crash, police said.

The Hampton Bays Fire Department, Hampton Bays Ambulance, and East Quogue Ambulance all responded, police said.
