Car Crashes Into Westhampton Beach Restaurant Sunday

The crash took place Sunday afternoon, causing the restaurant to evacuate and leaving both the driver and passenger injured.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A car careened into a Westhampton Beach restaurant Sunday afternoon.

According to Westhampton Beach village officials, the vehicle struck the side of Salt & Loft, an eatery located on Main Street, at around 1:30 p.m., while customers were inside.

No one inside the restaurant was hurt, but according to sources at the scene, a woman, 28, who was driving with a passenger down Main Street toward the post office and attempting to make a right onto Library Avenue, lost control of the vehicle. She hit the side of the building and reportedly did some damage to a water line, sources said.

The restaurant, which, like so many, has already endured unprecedented challenges during the pandemic, is expected to try to open again tonight, staffers told Warren St. John, president and director at Patch, who was at the scene.

The sentiment on the street, St. John said, was that the crash, which took place on a beautiful day in a heavily trafficked pedestrian area, could have ended far differently, with a potentially tragic outcome.
