Elderly Man Trapped, Rescued After Falling Into Well: Police

The man, 87, was unable to extricate himself from the 12-foot-deep well, police say.

QUOGUE, NY — An elderly man was trapped after falling into a well in Quogue Tuesday, police said.

According to Quogue Village Police, the incident took place at 5:50 p.m. on Lamb Avenue when the man, 87, fell into the well, which was 12-feet deep and 4-feet wide and located at the rear of a residence on private property.

The man suffered head and leg injuries and was unable to extricate himself, police said. A police officer, along with a paramedic from Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance, lowered themselves into the well to help the man, police said.

The Quogue Fire Department used a rig and hoist to rescue the man, who was brought to safety at 6:20 p.m., police said. He was treated at the scene and then taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries, police said.
