LONG ISLAND, NY — Wind gusts up to 65 mph will likely cause power outages on Long Island right around the time Santa comes down the chimney.
A high wind warning is now in effect until 10 a.m. Christmas Day.
Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines, the National Weather Service says. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will also be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The strongest winds will arrive early Friday.

Rain is likely after 8 p.m. and up to 2 inches is expected to fall being things dry up Friday afternoon.
"I urge residents to plan accordingly and avoid traveling later this evening, as road conditions could be treacherous," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said.
