Man Tries To Kill Mother, Commit Suicide On Christmas Day: Police

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Long Island man was arrested after he tried to kill his 97-year old mother and then commit suicide on Christmas Day, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 5:06 p.m., a 911 call came in from a Hampton Bays residence about a person bleeding. Officers found the woman in the home with her son, Frank Holecek, 71; Holecek had self-inflicted wounds on his wrists, police said.

His mother told police Holecek had tried to kill her and then commit suicide, police said. Holecek was arrested and charged with attempted murder and will be arraigned Saturday, police said.

Police requested medical attention; Southampton Volunteer Ambulance responded and transported the woman to one hospital and Holecek to a separate facility, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
