Suffolk Offers Shotgun Lottery for Deer Hunting

The Suffolk County Department of Parks will be participating in the special Long Island shotgun and muzzle loading rifle deer season for 2018. Suffolk County Parks will be offering deer hunting opportunities at Montauk County Park and Hubbard County Park in Hampton Bays.

The Suffolk County Parks program will be for four weeks, as follows:
Week# 1 January 8-12
Week# 2 January 15-19
Week #3 January 22-26
Week #4 January 29-31

The Parks Department will conduct an advanced lottery for hunters who wish to hunt at Hubbard County Park for weeks #1 and #2. Weeks #3 and #4 will be available by daily lottery at the park. At Montauk County Park, the advanced lottery will be for weeks #1, #2, #3 & #4. Hubbard County Park has eleven (11) hunting areas which are numbered 2 through 12 and Montauk has four (4) hunting areas which are numbered 1 through 4, all with a maximum of three hunters per area for each park. Hnters who wish to participate in the advanced lottery must complete the attached application and return it to the Suffolk County Department of Parks Administration Office at the West Sayville Golf Course by close of business (at 4:00 PM) or postmarked by Monday, December 4, 2017. Party leaders must be Suffolk County residents with a valid green key card at the time their reservation is confirmed. Party members may be non-residents, but must pay non-resident fees. Resident party members must also have a valid green key, or pay non-resident fees. A prospective Party Leader’s name may appear on only one application. Duplicate names will void all applications including any previously drawn. Party Leaders must participate in the hunt.

The drawing for the Advanced Lottery will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Activity Building in Cathedral Pines County Park in Middle Island. For the daily lottery at Hubbard during weeks #3 and #4, the offices will open each day at 6:00 AM and the lottery will be held at 6:15 AM. At both Montauk and Hubbard, any areas not occupied by 9:00 AM on any day will be reassigned by daily draw of all hunters present. No access is permitted to hunting areas at Montauk or Hubbard County Park after 1:00 PM on any hunt day.
Participants must have a valid N.Y. State Big Game Hunting license and one of the following: Big Game Carcass tag; Deer Management Permit for WMU 1C; Bonus Deer Management Permit for WMU 1C; BOW/MZ either sex tag; BOW/MZ Antlerless tag; in addition all hunters must have all proper Suffolk County Parks permits and appropriate Town permits (provided by Suffolk County). Only shotguns and muzzle loading rifles permitted (NYS DEC regulations apply).
CONFIRMATION: It is mandatory for successful party leaders to confirm their reservation by phone or in person with appropriate fee or permit will be considered void and the area reassigned. Permit is good for the day assigned and is non-transferable.

For Week #2: Hunters must confirm by 3:00 pm Wednesday January 3, 2018
For Week #3: Hunters must confirm by 3:00 pm Wednesday January 10, 2018

MENTORED YOUTH FIREARMS DEER HUNT
The Suffolk County Department of Parks will again be offering a mentored youth firearms deer hunt during the Special Firearms Deer Hunting Season in Suffolk County for 2018. Participants must be between 14-17 years old and accompanied by an adult licensed hunter (who may also hunt). The hunt will take place on Saturday, January 13th & Sunday, January 14th at Hubbard County Park in Hampton Bays, NY.
