The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, will host its first Summer Family Party on Saturday, August 16, from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. There will be activities for children and adults that have been created and organized with the assistance of the artists Billy Sullivan and the brothers Steven and William Ladd.
Entertainment and activities for children and adults will include informal hip hop dance lessons, an art scavenger hunt, and creation of original, classic flip books with food and beverages provided by the Golden Pear Café and Scotto’s Pizza.

Billy Sullivan, who has had a house in East Hampton for many years and whose work is part of the museum’s permanent collection, also serves as co-chair of the event. The Ladd brothers work will be the subject of the upcoming Parrish exhibition “Steven and William Ladd: Mary Queen of the Universe,” which will open on November 2. The artists were chosen to participate in the Summer Family Party because of their deep connections with the museum, the community, and work with children.
Sullivan will lead a “blind” drawing activity for families. The Ladds will guide participants in their original scroll-making process called a “Scrollathon.” Guests will have the opportunity to create a “Flipping Fun Book” flip book under the guidance of a director who will help them improvise fun and entertaining skits on camera. Afterwards, the images will be converted into a take-home flip book. Hip-Hop lessons, led by instructors from Broadway Dance Center, will be held in the Theater and the scavenger hunt will take place in the galleries of the Parrish, as children become art detectives, searching for works of art and items on a clue sheet.

“The goal of the Summer Family Party is to give families the opportunity to explore the Museum, create art together with master artists, learn new skills in a fun, casual way, and get to know all that the Parrish Art Museum has to offer the community year round,” said Parrish Director Terrie Sultan.
The 3-hour event will be held throughout the Museum: the galleries, the covered terrace, the event lawn, the art studio, and in the Lichtenstein Theater will all be open to patrons.
Tickets start at $75 for members and include all activities. To purchase tickets and for more information: parrishart.org/familyparty
