Best Selling History Novelists to Appear at White Plains Library

Critically acclaimed authors and Westchester County residents Karen Engelmann and Jeanne Zimmerman will appear at White Plains Public Library on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

Both authors have recently released historical novels: Engelmann’s The Stockholm Octavo, set in 18th century Stockholm, and Zimmerman’s The Orphanmaster, set in 17th century New York.

Library Director Brian Kenney will lead the discussion.

Author and designer Karen Engelmann lived and worked in Sweden for eight years. She has an MFA from Goddard College in Vermont. She currently lives in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Throughout her writing career Jean Zimmerman has published critically acclaimed non-fiction that focuses on the changing role of women in America. In her debut novel The Orphanmaster, she tells the story of a beautiful, determined female trader in 1663 New Amsterdam, the Dutch colony at the foot of Manhattan Island, who sees orphans go missing and decides to catch the killer before it’s too late.

In a starred review, Booklist said The Orphanmaster is “A fascinating perspective on colonial politics and
human behavior…” and “compulsively readable”.

Zimmerman lives in Ossining, New York.

Engelmann and Zimmerman’s books will be available for sale from The Friends of White Plains Library.
