
For the second year, the acclaimed Harlem Fine Arts Show will make a stop in White Plains. And this year, it will include a special honoree—renowned illustrator Jerry Pinckney.
White Plains has once again been honored as the only presenter of this show in Westchester County. The Harlem Fine Arts Show is the premier showcase of contemporary art celebrating the African Diaspora.
Over the years, the Harlem Fine Arts Show has exhibited the work of more than 300 artists in a variety of media, supported numerous charitable organizations and helped elevate awareness of contemporary African diasporic art as a viable and excitingarea for collecting and connoisseurship.

The White Plains show will take place on Thursday, December 6 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Reckson building lobby, 360 Hamilton Avenue. The White Plains event is the precursor tothe Harlem Fine Arts Show, which will be held during Black History Month, February 7 – 10, 2013 at Riverside Church in Harlem.
Honoree Jerry Pinckney is an African American Illustrator of children’s books whose career has spanned more than 50 years. He has received numerous awards and commendations. He is a five time recipient of the Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award; a four time New York Times Best Illustrator Awardee; he has been awarded four Gold and four Silver medals from the Society of Illustrators; and is a 1994 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awardee.

In 2000 he was given the Virginia Hamilton Literary Award from the University of Southern Mississippi for outstanding contributions in the field of children’s literature.
Mr. Pinckney’s work is currently being featured at the Hudson River Museum in Hastings-on-Hudson though January 2013 and his newest book, “Puss in the Boots,” was just released.
The Harlem Fine Arts Show Comes to White Plains is presented by the City of White Plains Youth Bureau and the Westchester Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
