Bronx Man Heading To Westchester Killed In Plane Crash

Authorities said the plane went down shortly after take off in Maryland.

A Bronx man traveling to Westchester County was killed in a small plane crash Sunday in New Carrollton, Maryland. Maryland State Police said Gordon Allen, 61, of the Bronx, died when his plane crashed around 3:10 p.m.

The FAA said his plane had been heading to the Westchester County Airport, the Journal News reported.

According to a preliminary investigation, the plane departed the College Park Airport in College Park, Maryland, just minutes before crashing in the 6300 block of Chestnut Avenue in New Carrollton, Maryland.

The plane crashed into a carport of a single-family home, then struck a vehicle. Both the vehicle and the plane caught on fire, police said.

Allen was confirmed to be the sole fatality. No one was in the home at the time of the crash and no one on the ground was injured.

Police said about 18 homes lost power in the area as a result of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be handling the crash investigation, the cause of which has yet to be determined.
