According to state numbers released Thursday, there were 782 active cases of the virus in Westchester. Monday saw 922 and a week ago there were 1,182.
"To give you an idea how small the number of new infections are," Latimer said, "yesterday 7,701 people were tested and only 57 positives were reported."
He said that is less than a 1 percent positive rate of infection.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19-related illness reported Thursday were 58, down from 72 one week ago and 115 two weeks ago.
Latimer said there were no fatalities reported overnight. There were five over the past week, bringing the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 2,270.
