80-Minute Day for Some White Plains Schools

Younger students to spend only a spell at schools Tuesday; some parents miffed.

A snow delay coupled with parent conferences has shortened the day at White Plains elementary schools to a brief 80 minutes.

Monday night's foul winter weather coated roads with a layer of slick snow, prompting officials to begin school two hours later. And at noon today, four of the district's five lower schools—George Washington, Mamaroneck Avenue, Post Road and Ridgeway—will dismiss for conferences.

Church Street will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., not noon.

White Plains High School and Middle School are also affected by Tuesday morning's delay, but will not dismiss early.

The truncated school day has a handful of parents irked.

"Kids are not happy neither are the parents, since they will have to go to school for just one hour and 30 minutes," penned Mayra Pineda on White Plains Patch's Facebook page.

Other parents chimed in, calling the  "silly."
