Thousands to 'Go the Distance' This Sunday

Maria Fareri Children's Hospital holds annual fundraiser in Valhalla this weekend.

Troops of Hudson Valley resident will kick-off a charity walk this weekend in the name of children's health care.

The annual Maria Fareri Children's Hospital "Go the Distance" event is slated for Sunday morning and afternoon in Valhalla at Westchester Medical Center.

"We're expecting our usual crowd," said Andrew LaGuardia, a spokesman for the hospital.

And usual means thousands.

"Traditionally, thousands of people come out from across the Hudson Valley in support of the hospital and advanced children's health care in region," LaGuardia continued. "Patient families, friends, church groups, residents who want to provide the best care possible."

The weather for Sunday is promising—56-degrees with little chance of rain. The emcees will be Mike and Kacey from 100.7 FM's morning show.

The annual walk circles around the hospital center, about one mile, and kicks off at 9:30 a.m.

"The walk is a signature component of the event, but not the only component," LaGuardia noted. On the heels of the walk are a bundle of family-friendly events, including face painting and dace troupe performances.

The walk's grand marshal will be Jaimie Ferreti, an eight-year-old Mahopac fifth-grader who underwent a lifesaving neurosurgical procedure at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital last year.

"She is representing thousands of children that we care for each year," LaGuardia said.
