PARENTING & CAREGIVING

Ask Lisa: the Psychology of Parenting

Diving into very tough, but real, questions and topics, Ask Lisa: the Psychology of Parenting frequently doesn’t hold back. Dr. Lisa Amour is a clinical psychologist, mother and NY Times best-selling author of Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood and Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. One particular aspect to note is that the topics tackled are frequently relevant to parents and caregivers of teenagers.

Good Inside

Dr. Becky Kennedy is a clinical psychologist and mother of three. This recently launched podcast tackles parenting topics and questions, interviews real parents, and offers guidance.

Mindful Parenting in a Messy World

With a focus on “practical, doable, parent-friendly practices,” mindfulness teacher Michelle Gale offers advice, tips and examples for how to approach parenting from a more mindful perspective, including being mindful in specific situations.

Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids

Dr. Laura Markham, a clinical psychologist, best-selling author and mother, has long been someone whose articles and blog posts on parenting I have enjoyed and found useful. One thing she stresses is that so much of parenting successfully and happily is not so much about the child, but working on yourself, the parent. Dr. Markham’s new podcast is a great way to get parenting advice and guidance, but also to have your parenting questions answered. You can submit them on the website.

Raising Adults: Future Focused Parenting

This podcast looks at intentional, rather than reactive, parenting through the lens that the job of parents and caregivers is to raise successful, resilient, healthy, functioning adults – “we can stop raising kids and start raising adults!”

Spawned

Focusing on examining parenting with honesty, humor and common sense, Spawned covers a variety of topics and regularly features celebrity guests.

Talking to Teens

The name says it all – how to talk to teens about, well, everything. For example, recent episodes have covered college applications, anxiety, puberty, social justice, awkward conversations, and helping to build confidence.

TiLT Parenting

Founded by Debbie Reber, parenting advocate and author Debbie Reber and author of NYT bestseller Differently Wired, the TiLT podcast is aimed at helping parents raising ‘differently-wired’ kids to do so from a place of confidence, connection, and joy.”

BOOKS, READING & KIDLIT

The Children’s Book Podcast

Librarian Matthew Winner interviews writers, illustrators and others involved in the creation of childrens’ books. Episodes delve into the process of book creation, as well as topics both light and serious in relation to individual works, children’s literature generally, and the lives of children.

Kidlit These Days

Bookriot’s kidlit podcast covers a wide variety of topics related to children’s literature, and is well worth diving into to find out more about current trends, new books, and explore the wonderful world of kidlit.

kidlitwomen

While not currently producing new episodes, author/illustrator Grace Lin’s “podcast of interviews and essays focusing on women's and gender issues, including non-binary and gender fluidity, in the children’s literature community and all its intersectionality” is worth diving into. There are 101 episodes available.

Library Girl and Book Boy

Created with teachers and parents in mind, this podcast from teacher Jo Cummings highlights new works for kids and speaks with authors and illustrators about their upcoming books.

Picturebooking

In-depth interviews and conversations with picture book creators, discussing their process, inspirations, and the importance and impact of picture books.

Read-Aloud Revival
