NYC Man Accused Of Fatally Shooting White Plains Man

Police were called to a Yonkers apartment complex for the report of a shooting.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A New York City man was accused of fatally shooting a man in Yonkers. Police said, shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to an apartment in the Palisade Towers complex on Schroeder Street for a report of a shooting.

When police got there, they found an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound to his thigh, resulting in a large loss of blood.

The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as Mark Payton, 56, of White Plains.

The preliminary investigation found that Payton, who was not a resident of the apartment, was approached by a man, who was known to him, from outside the building.

Police said a dispute between the two men escalated to violence when the victim was shot by a handgun.

The man who shot Payton fled the scene in a car.

He was apprehended by members of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety shortly after a regional "Be On the Look Out" notice was issued.

Police arrested Eric Greer, 53, of Manhattan. He was charged with second-degree murder, a felony. Greer was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

Greer's car was impounded as evidence, police said, but the murder weapon has not been recovered.

The investigation is active and ongoing, police said.
