Obituary: Richard Liebson, 61, Of White Plains

Longtime Journal News reporter Richard Liebson died Sunday at the age of 61. He had had cancer for about two years.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer issued a statement that said all of Westchester mourns his passing.

"Rich was a talented writer who put all of his being into following and investigating stories that mattered to the people of Westchester," he said.

"Rich had a number of beats over the years working for the Journal News, from education to government to public safety," Latimer said. "A White Plains resident, he kept us all informed and engaged as a beat reporter — for that we can never thank him enough. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time."

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains, 2 Maple Avenue.

A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Liebson requested that no ties be worn.

He is survived by his wife Victoria Hochman, two daughters, two brothers and two sisters.
