Support for LGBT People with Cancer, Recognizing Pride Month

Gilda's Club Westchester is Recognizing Pride Month and the Cancer Disparities Faced by the LBTQ+ Community

Those in the LGBTQ+ community can face additional challenges when diagnosed with cancer. Many LGBTQ individuals continuously fear discrimination or harassment, and others don’t have a doctor or medical provider that they can trust with their personal information.

Finding “LGBTQ+ positive” medical providers can make a difference regarding an individual’s mental and physical health. It is critically important to enlist a health care team that can be compassionate, sensitive, caring and is attuned to the special issues faced by LGBTQ+ people.

Here are some important resources for LBGTQ+ people with cancer:

● The National LGBT Cancer Network (www.cancer-network.org) has a comprehensive list of cancer resources for the LGBT community.
