[VIDEO] State Senate Democrats Plan to Unveil Anti-Corruption Proposals
Stewart-Cousins: Lawmakers must regain the public's trust.
In the wake of two new corruption scandals that have hit state and local political leaders, Democrats in the state Senate plan next week to unveil new anti-corruption proposals.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-35th, said the measures are needed to help restore the public's trust in its elected officials. Stewart-Cousins, whose district includes portions of New Rochelle, Scarsdale, White Plains and Yonkers as well as Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings, is leader of the state Senate Democratic Conference.
Stewart-Cousins said that she, like most others in the state, was shocked by the two recent scandals that have rocked the state from New York City to Albany. Federal investigations have led to corrpuption charges against a high-ranking state senator who had aspirations to be New York City's mayor, two Republican Party county leaders - in the Bronx and Queens - and two members of the Assembly.
