Westchester County Golf Courses Open For Season

The county executive took the first ceremonial swing.

County Executive Robert P. Astorino took the ceremonial first swing opening the new season of the six Westchester-owned golf courses Thursday at Dunwoodie Golf Course, Yonkers.

“After a long winter, made even longer by winter storm Stella, the golf courses are ready for the new season,” Astorino said. “We have invested to make them even more playable and enjoyable to golfers. There will be major improvements at Dunwoodie and Sprain Lake this season, so there is a lot to look forward to.”

Tee time reservations may be made online and through GolfNow.com. Reservations can be made by calling the individual courses. Walk-up reservations will also be accepted at the courses, according to information from the county.

Since late 2016, a construction project has been underway to install a new computer-controlled irrigation system at Dunwoodie. Its shower heads can be directed to pinpoint spray. The new system’s footprint is expanded to reach new areas of the course. The result will be a greener course throughout with healthier turf.

Similarly, a new irrigation system will be installed at Sprain Lake. In addition, the 13th hole will be rebuilt, the sand traps will be rehabilitated, six greens will be redone and cart paths will be relocated.

The Dunwoodie project is expected to be completed early in the season. The Sprain Lake project will begin during the 2017 season. Both courses are expected to remain open during construction.

The courses are Mohansic in Yorktown Heights; Maple Moor in White Plains; Saxon Woods in Scarsdale; Hudson Hills in Ossining; and Dunwoodie and Sprain Lake, which are both in Yonkers.

Any available E-Z Reserve spots will be sold at the courses. E-Z Reserve enables golfers with a Westchester County Park Pass to block out a regular Saturday or Sunday tee time for a period of 25 weeks.
