White Plains Wants Volunteers To Help Seniors Get Vaccinated

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The city of White Plains is trying to help seniors get appointments for the new coronavirus vaccination.

The city is launching a COVID Angels Volunteer Project to assist White Plains seniors with navigating the technology needed to get vaccinated.

Mayor Tom Roach said his office has received many calls from senior citizens who have been unable to secure an appointment.

"The White Plains COVID Angels Project is designed to be a source of assistance to seniors who have limitations accessing vaccinations and to alleviate some of the stress that has become associated with navigating the vaccine process," he said.

The City of White Plains Youth Bureau and Recreation and Parks Department will be managing the project and asking for volunteers to assist them in making calls and securing appointments online for seniors.

Due to the scope of the undertaking, the city said it will need as many volunteers as possible to navigate the state Department of Health website, as well as log data related to securing an appointment online.

SEWA International of Westchester, a volunteer organization, has been identified to assist with implementing the project.

The city said volunteers with various skill sets are welcome to help. Volunteers are needed to be team leaders and work on data collection as well as booking appointments and making calls.

Because appointments can be made 24 hours day, there is flexibility for all who can to help.
