The following announcement is from the White Plains Recreation and Parks Department:
The White Plains Recreation and Parks Department hosted its fourth annual USTA “Compete in the Parks” tennis tournament at the City’s Gillie tennis courts this past weekend, September 20-21. The “Compete in the Park Series” is a USTA program designed to promote recreational tennis for players of all levels and exposed many to tournament tennis play for the first time. The weekend tournament was a part of the USTA “Compete in the Park Series”. The City of White Plains is an active member of the USTA and actively participates in many other USTA sponsored programs.
More than 45 individuals competed in tournament play, compliments to all who participated. Matches included various men and women singles and doubles. After two days of high level play and friendly sportsmanship, the winners were crowned and awarded medals for their accomplishments. Refreshments and wrist bands were provided by Mary Ellen Bickler of Brown-Bickler Company. Special thanks to Don Barker for volunteering his time and energies assisting our staff to make this event successful.
