1 Dead, 4 Hospitalized In Williamsburg; Carbon Monoxide Reported
Police found a man lying on the ground in a second floor hallway. He was unconscious and not breathing. Four others were hospitalized.

WILLIAMSBURG, NY — A man was found dead in a Williamsburg building and four other people were rushed to hospitals with apparent carbon monoxide poisoning. Police officers were called around 6:10 a.m. Saturday to a building near Jackson Street and Woodpoint Road.
The officers found a man lying on the ground in a second floor hallway, police said. He was unconscious and not breathing. Emergency workers declared him dead inside the building.
Two other men and two women were rushed from the building to Cornell Medical Center. They were hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The medical examiner's office will determine how the man died. An investigation remains ongoing.
Firefighters evacuated the building along with an adjoining property, WABC-TV reported. A generator was reportedly activated and the five adults had been exposed to carbon monoxide levels at 250 parts per million. Any level above 70 parts per million is considered toxic.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people do not use a generator, charcoal grill, camp stove or other gasoline or charcoal-burning devices inside their homes, basements, garages or near any windows. Generators, pressure washers and any other gasoline-powered engines should be at least 20 feet from any window, door or vent.
