16 Story Apartment Building Planned for St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Clinton Hill

The Clinton Hill residential development will have 142 apartments and a 25,000-square-foot community hall alongside the landmarked church.

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — A 16-story, 142-unit residential building is set for development on the grounds of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Clinton Hill.

A permit application filed today with the Department of Buildings shows that the 4,800-square-foot rectory of the church will be demolished to make space for the future apartments at 230 Classon Ave.; the developer is unnamed and is working alongside the church and the architecture firm, DXA Studio, The Real Deal reports.

The residential portion of the building is planned to encompass 97,283-square-feet of space, and a connected 25,264-square-foot community hall will bring the total development to 119,307-square-feet.

“This is the moment in Brooklyn to capitalize and to use real estate if you have it. The area is very different from what it was 30 years ago,” Father Gerald Keucher told The Real Deal.

Parking for 93 cars, a library, coffee shop, and church office space is also included in the plans.
