5 Firefighters Hurt Battling Greenpoint Warehouse Blaze, FDNY

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Five firefighters were injured battling a massive warehouse fire that was still fuming 10 hours after it erupted early Thursday morning, the FDNY said.

The four-alarm fire broke out at 259 Monitor St. near Norman Avenue just after midnight and by 2:20 a.m. had 175 firefighters at the building battling the blaze, an FDNY spokesman said.

As of 10 a.m., the fire had not yet been deemed under control.

Five firefighters were hurt by the flames and were sent to the hospital. Their injuries were minor and there were no civilians hurt by the fire, the spokesman said.

New York City's office of Emergency Management warned Greenpoint residents to expect traffic delays and advised them to close their windows to avoid the smoke.
